Top 10 - Greatest empires

The world is divided in countries, some rich, some small, some poor, and some large, and some really unimaginably huge, the biggest ten are listed below!

10.
Rashidun Caliphate
Established after the death of Muhammad. They had the luck that the Roman empire fell, due to attacks of Barbarians, otherwise, they'd just have had a part of the Arabic Peninsula, and wouldn't have come in the top 10 of greatest empires of all time.

9.
Portuguese Colonial Empire
Of all colonial empires ever, the Portuguese has existed the longest, for over 600 years. 81.9% of the empire's land was situated in the current country of Brazil, which is still the largest country on the southern hemisphere. what's left today of this once so mighty empire is called, surprisingly, Portugal, a relatively small country with relatively big monetary problems.

8.
Abbisid Caliphate
This empire was founded by descendants of an uncle of Muhammad's, it was established by conquering large parts of the number five in this list.

7.
French Colonial Empire
You might once have wondered why French is the main language in so many African countries, the reason is that they were all part of France once. And so were Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and once some parts of the U.S. The French had big problems with letting some of their colonies go, most of the time the French ended up losing a guerrilla war in a jungle. Today the French remain a pact with their former colonies: "France will not interfere with it's former colonies".

6.
China
China is a bit different, it's listed only once, when it should be listed far more times, and that's the reason, the list would have been dominated by China, so the greatest China of all time, the Qing Dynasty, is listed here. The second largest they've been was during the Yuan Dynasty, but listing that would be absolute cheating, because back then, they were part of our number two of all time.
5.
Umayyad Caliphate
This enormous empire was the second of four Caliphates to be established after the death of Prophet Muhammad, thanks to this empire, which went all way west to Spain, were the largest city of that time in Europe was after the collapse of the Roman Empire, which was too small to be listed here, Cordoba was situated, the Islam was spread through northern Africa.

4.
Spanish Colonial Empire
This empire covered almost all of south America, except for Brazil of course. There was a time that Spain also ruled over Portugal, but that didn't last for long, as all colonial empires, eventually Spain had to let their colonies go.

3.
Russian Empire
If you thought that Russia is large now, you can't image the size of it in the year 1866, when the empire's size was ±133.3% of the size of the current Russia. of course, back then the Tsars still had all power in Russia.

2.
Mongolian Empire
Under their Great leader, Genghis Khan, their empire grew all way from Korea to Poland. Genghis Khan is probably the greatest conqueror in all of human history. Though the Khans after him tried to keep their empire as great as it was, they weren´t by far as good a leader as their ancestor, until Kublai Khan, who restored some parts of the gigantic empire, however the empire slowly collapsed after his death, what´s left of it today is Mongolia, which is nothing compared to the great power of the thirteenth century.

1.
British Colonial Empire
After centuries of conquering, fighting and progression, like the industrial revolution, in 1922, the British empire was at it´s height in size, covering almost a quarter of the land on our planet, their leader in that year, King George V, the first ever emperor of India to ever actually be there, first cousin of the last Russian Tsar, who was killed four year earlier. Today Great Britain still has a very special relationship with their former territories, they're part of the Commonwealth Realm, which helped the British letting their colonies go less violently than with France.
